THE WOMEN BEHIND THE NAME
Susan Baker
I've always had a thing for the unexpected—vivid colors that clash just right, textures that make you want to reach out and touch, and designs that feel like they shouldn’t work... but somehow do. My journey started on the stage, studying Theatre at Texas Woman’s University and earning an MFA in Scenic Design from San Diego State. I spent years creating worlds from scratch—painting massive sets, designing immersive spaces, and splashing bold strokes across backdrops that had to wow from thirty feet away. Subtlety? That was for close-up artists.
Eventually, my canvas shrank—but my imagination didn’t. I turned to textiles, bringing that same theatrical flair into fabric and thread. Now, I stitch together collaged quilted art that’s anything but quiet. My work blends free-motion quilting with rich detail, and sometimes a bit of beading or embroidery for good measure. Each piece is a bold love letter to color, movement, and storytelling.
Quilting has long been tucked into the corners of "women’s work"—rarely seen as fine art. I aim to change that. I believe a quilted piece can hang proudly beside a painting in any gallery, and I’m making work that dares people to take a second look... and then a third. There's humor in what I do (especially when animals get involved), and a deep love for the wild beauty of Texas—its native plants, creatures, and curious charm.
I’m proud to be one of the artists at Carriage House Gallery in Boerne, Texas, and I’m currently developing online courses to help others discover their creative voice through fiber art.
Hi, I'm Ashleigh, the creator behind Crazy Plant Lovee. My journey began with a deep-rooted love for plants and a desire to blend creativity with sustainability. After the birth of my second son, I found joy in nurturing plants and started propagating them, leading to an abundance that sparked the idea for my business.
At Crazy Plant Lovee, I craft one-of-a-kind plant arrangements using unique, vintage, upcycled, and handmade items. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to bring a touch of nature and whimsy into your space.
In addition to curated plant designs, I offer hands-on workshops, private classes, and DIY kits that bring the joy of plant styling directly to you. Whether you're a beginner or a budding plant enthusiast, these experiences are designed to be fun, educational, and inspiring. You'll learn how to create your own living art using unique vessels and healthy plants, all while gaining confidence in plant care. My DIY kits include everything you need to get started at home, and workshops are a great way to connect, get creative, and leave with a piece that reflects your personal style.
Crazy Plant Lovee's mission goes beyond selling plants. I aim to foster a love for plant care by offering support through care cards, special instructions, and even a plant replacement policy. If your plant doesn't thrive, bring it back, and we'll re-pot it together.
Let's grow together and make plant care a joyful journey!
